Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero was the younger son of Nero Claudius Drusus, the brother of the Emperor Tiberius, and of Antonia, and was born B.C. 10 in Lugdunum in Gaul. He had reached the age of fifty, when he was suddenly raised by soldiers to the imperial throne after the murder of Caligula.
