CARUS COINS

M. Aurelius Carus, probably born at Narbo in Gaul, was praefectus praetorio under Probus, and on the murder of the latter was elected Emperor. He was struck dead by lightning toward the close of 283 as he was preparing to push his conquests beyond the Tigris. He was succeeded by his sons Carinus and Numerianus.
