Flavius Arcadius, elder son of Theodosius Ist, was born in Spain, A.D. 383. On the death of Theodosius, he became Emperor of the East, while the West was given to his younger brother Honorius. Soon after the accession of Arcadius, the government fell into the hands of Eutropius, then Gainas the Goth, then Eudoxia.
