PAPIRIA COINS

The gens Papiria was a family of double order, the one patrician of the junior race (minorum gentium), called in the earlier ages Papisia; the other was plebeian, according to Cicero, whose words of the epistola ad Patum, both Ursinus and Havercamp quote in illustration of Papiria gens.—The surnames of the plebeian branch, wich was of consular rank, and to which alone the coines of this family belong, are Carbo and Turdus.
