CURTIA COINS

The gens Curtia was a family known only by its name agreeing with that of the Roman knight who, for his country's sake, precipitated himself into a gulf in the Forum. That is was of the plebeian order is shewn by the tribuneship of a Quintus Curtius, whose coins, as connected with that family, are still extant, in four varieties of type, none of which, however, make the least allusion to the self-devoting patriot of the Roman legend.
